FIRST DRONE SHOW IN HENDRICKS COUNTY HAPPENING IN AVON TO CELEBRATE VETERANS

Avon, Indiana – Veterans Day is observed this year on November 11th, and on that day the Town of Avon, Indiana, is excited to introduce a new event created to celebrate those who have served this country. Combining elements like food trucks, "Thank You" card creation stations, ICAN service dogs, veteran-owned business booths, and free Chick-fil-A sandwiches for veterans, the Town of Avon hopes to show its appreciation for every veteran who calls Avon and the surrounding areas home. At 6:00 p.m., there will be a drone show over Avon Town Hall Park versus fireworks, as loud noises and explosions can cause PTSD for some veterans. Robert Pope, Town of Avon Indiana Council President, shared, "I am excited for this new event in Avon that honors our community's veterans. War is a tragedy and leaves on every combatant a scar that is impossible to heal. It is our hope that this salute in silence will allow us to celebrate their service and sacrifice without triggering invasive memories from those wounds."

According to ptsd.va.gov, part of the US Department of Veterans Affairs, "PTSD (posttraumatic stress disorder) is a mental health problem that some people develop after experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening event, like combat...".  The Town of Avon hopes that providing this celebration in silence, with no loud music, explosions, flashes of light, or smoke, will allow the community to show their appreciation in a fun but also respectful manner.  This is the first drone show in Hendricks County and the only silent celebration in the central Indiana region during Veterans Day.

"I am so excited to add this celebration to the Town's wide offering of community events. I am proud to be able to celebrate veterans and show the appreciation of our community in a unique way that all are able to enjoy," stated Ryan Cannon, Town of Avon Indiana Town Manager. "Plus, what could be more cool than 150 drones working together to make images in the sky."
