Discovering Your Family Roots: A Beginner’s Guide to Genealogy at the Avon Library

Avon, IN— Do you know the names and stories of your ancestors? Exploring your family history can be incredibly rewarding, but taking the first steps can often feel overwhelming. We are excited to share that Lisa Dulcich-Suyeyasu is leading two Genealogy classes at the Avon-Washington Township Public Library in August. The first class, “Discovering Your Family Roots: A Beginner’s Guide to Genealogy” is Wednesday, August 6, 5:30-7p.m. and is perfect for beginners or those curious about genealogy. Participants will learn how to begin tracing their family history. From gathering records and using online tools, to organizing your research, this session will give you the foundational skills to start building your family tree and uncovering the stories of your ancestors.

Lisa will return to the library on Wednesday, August 20 th at 5:30 for another presentation in the Huron Room titled “Discovering Your Family Roots Using Genetic Genealogy.” This class will introduce you to the basics of genetic genealogy, including how DNA testing works, the different types of tests available, and how to interpret your results.  DNA genealogy can confirm traditional research, provide missing pieces, and help break through long-standing roadblocks in your family tree.  This session will help you understand how DNA can be a powerful tool in your genealogical journey. One lucky attendee will win a free DNA kit* to use in their research!

These Genealogy Programs are free and open to the public. Registration is required and you can do so online at AvonLibrary.net, in person at the library, or by calling (317)272-4818. Please email awtpl@avonlibrary.net with any questions.

Lisa’s hobbies reflect her passion for connection and discovery. As a dedicated genetic genealogist, she has solved over 75 adoption cases, reuniting families and helping individuals uncover their roots. Her journey began with her own adoption story, where traditional genealogy research led her to her biological mother.   In 2016, Lisa’s passion expanded to include DNA genealogy, leading her to successfully identify her biological father. Lisa is known for being a great listener, and creating a judgment-free space that helps her clients feel at ease during what can often be an emotional and life-changing journey.  This personal success inspired Lisa to dedicate herself to helping others navigate similar paths of self- discovery. Alongside her genealogical work, she enjoys traveling, spending time with loved ones, and enthusiastically cheering on her daughter in gymnastics.
