American Senior Communities Appoints Dr. Arif Nazir MD as Chief Medical Officer

Indiana – Dr. Arif Nazir has been appointed Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of American Senior Communities (ASC), Indiana’s largest senior care provider. Dr. Nazir is CMO for primary care at BrightSpring Health Services, a leading provider of complementary home- and community-based pharmacy and health services for complex populations in need of specialized and/or chronic care that provides CMO and primary care consulting services across many states and organizations. As CMO, Dr. Nazir will lead innovation, data-driven clinical decision-making, and better outcomes by enhancing the engagement of high quality medical directors, physicians, and other practitioners to support the facility staff for day-to-day clinical challenges.

Dr. Nazir is a board-certified geriatrician with demonstrated experience in leading teams for improving post-acute systems resulting in higher patient satisfaction and improved avoidable hospitalization rates. He envisions that this partnership will result in the much-needed transformation of medical care delivery systems, such that physicians and other practitioners are better aligned with facility staff and their workflows.

Dr. Nazir is a past president of the Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (AMDA) and leads the Society’s national Drive to Deprescribe (D2D) campaign. In March 2023 he received the AMDA’s most prestigious William Dodd Founders Award for Distinguished Service. Dr. Nazir is also an accomplished teacher with published research in several peer-reviewed journals and frequently presents at regional and national platforms on geriatric care issues.
