ABOUT ACS

The American Cancer Society (ACS) mission is to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support, ensuring everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.
Our vision is to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.

Key pillars of this mission include:

  • Research: Funding and conducting research to better understand and treat cancer.
  • Support: Providing, for example, 24/7 information and support to patients.
  • Prevention: Promoting healthy lifestyles to prevent cancer.
  • Advocacy: Working with lawmakers to pass, for example, laws to defeat cancer. 
The ACS, whose core values include integrity, compassion, courage, determination, and diversity, aims to make a difference for everyone affected by cancer.
